Interviewer:  If you move to Arizona, Becky, do you need to update your estate plan?

Becky Cholewka:  Anytime you move to a different state or move here into Arizona it’s a good idea to talk to an attorney and make sure your plan is still OK. There are documents in an estate plan that are state specific documents.

All those powers of attorney, health care as well as financial power of attorney. There are state specific statutes that control those. Even if you move from Illinois and come here, maybe you have a trust that may be great. You may not have to do much to it, but you’re probably going to have to redo or relook at your powers of attorney. Here at Cholewka Law we do that all the time with our snowbird clients.
