Becky Cholewka: This is Josi in our office, and we were just recording another video about a scam alert that I’m aware of. Josi said after we turned off the video, “Hey, have you heard about this one? It just started happening to me.” I’m going to let Josi tell you about another scam that we’ve been hearing about.
Josi Fredstrup: Hi everyone. What it is, is I have been getting a lot of recorded telemarketing calls. It sounds like people are on the phone. They wait for you to say, “Hello.” Then the recording starts in, and it’s timed really well to where it sounds like you’re talking to somebody, but they aren’t responsive.
What it is is, they are trying to get you to buy services, and they’re fake services. It’s enough of a problem in Arizona that it’s actually been on 12 News twice this week. If you do get those recorded calls, please don’t pay attention to them. It’s not something that you want to opt in.
Basically, where you’re going to want to start is, get your number on the Do Not Call List. I would say visit 12news.com and go through the steps that they have listed there to make sure that you don’t fall victim to that.
