As our America 250 Legacy Series reaches new heights toward the 2026 milestone, we turn to the man who defined the very source of American power: The Jurisprudent, James Wilson.
One of only six men to sign both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, Wilson was the intellectual powerhouse who insisted on a radical idea: “All power is derived from the people.” While others feared the “common man,” Wilson championed the idea that the individual is the true sovereign. As one of the original Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, he spent his life ensuring that the law served the individual’s right to self-governance. He gave us a Legacy of Individual Sovereignty.
The Lesson for Today: You are the Supreme Court of your own estate. A truly “Wilsonian” legacy requires a plan that acknowledges you as the ultimate authority, ensuring that your power doesn’t vanish the moment you are no longer at the helm. If you don’t define the “Law of your Land,” the government will happily legislate it for you.
Without a private legal framework — a Trust and a Power of Attorney that speak for you when you cannot — your sovereignty is surrendered to the state. Don’t let your personal “Constitution” be written by a judge who never knew your name.
The Friday Tag: Have you ratified your own personal Constitution? Join us next Friday as we continue to celebrate America’s Semiquincentennial. Claim your sovereignty today!
